Beauty or the Beast

I think every American girl's dream is to one day grow up and be a Disney Princess. Luckily, now adays the selection is more than Snow White and Cinderella.  Personally, my favorite is Belle.  She's smart, bookish, beautiful, and a little head strong.  Plus she gets to live in France in an exotic castle.  The problem is, some days I think I missed my calling and decided to opt to be the Beast.  Do you ever have days when you even find yourself annoying?  When your fur ruffles not only at every comment, but when you look in the mirror?  And while the Disney dream land is appealing to 6 year olds, its still plastic.  The trees are fake.  As a disillusioned Disney Princess who was sure one day her prince would come, I've realized that I'd rather live where the grass is real and the ride I'm on (life) doesn't have a line to wait in.  And on those days that I feel a bit more like the growling beast, I remind myself that life is short and the roses petals are crumbling. Life is too short to be grumpy. And even if you feel beastly, you can change, non (said in french accent)?

To all of my faithful readers (I don't even know if you exist anymore... my apologies for not posting in the last 9 months!)  This week my sisters are coming for Spring Break and we plan on touring the sites and scenes of glorious Oregon.  Hopefully I'll get a chance to post some pics of our adventures.

Also MAY is just around the corner, so if you hear of some amazing job I should apply for... just let me know! :)

Climb Every Mountain

Greetings friends! Its been entirely too long since I've posted. My apologies. This summer and fall I have had the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors and Northwest.  Never one to miss out on a sweet opportunity I took every chance I could get to go and hike different areas.  Here a few shots of some of my journey into the wild wild West.

Come on and feel the ILLINOISE

Its Memorial Day. What exactly are we remembering? Is this a military holiday? Wait, I just looked it up on Wikipedia.  Thats right, I remember celebrating this holiday back in the day.  My whole fam would go to this little graveyard in Putnam,IL and my grandpa would get dressed up in his uniform and then military guys would shoot off their shotguns... and then us kids would run and find the copper shells and make whistles out of them.  Why does it always rain on Memorail Day?  I am grateful for those who have served... Lord knows I don't think I could do it.

I just got back from a 10 day stint in Illinois.  Got to see my family, my boyfriend, his family, and a few friends. I can't believe how fast it went. Mike and I will have met 5 months ago in 2 days. Its hard to believe I've only known him that long and yet in many ways its hard to believe how fast it has gone.  Amazing how time works like that.

ALSO  a HAPPY 93rd BDAY to my Great Aunt Lucille!  She's my number one hero and I hope to have lived 1/2 the life she lived at her age, I would be a blessed woman.

Here are a few photos of my trip. I wish we could have had 10 more days!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

Good thing Mike and I are both good and juggling... our lives seem filled with it!  I sure wish life would slow down sometimes... but God is gracious and He is faithful to provide.  I am so grateful for His provision in allowing us to go home, the timing was perfect!  Now I'm off to summer school and working outside on compus doing grounds crew.  I'm looking forward to getting my new crocs dirty and getting a sweet farmer's tan.

1 year down... 12 months to go.

YIPEE. I only have 10 days until I'm home. WHOOT WHOOT. Thats pretty crazy. One year of seminary down... and about 12 months till I have a masters degree. Lord Willing!  I really doubt anyone checks my blog anymore consdering I am PATHETIC about keeping it up.  Could be because I was juggling 5 jobs, full time student, and a boyfriend. :) ha!  Enough excuses. As PS always told us in youth group "excuses are like armits, everyones got them and they all stink." Thanks PS. Oh and congrats on your marriage!

So tonight I'm off to a concert. Shawn McDonald and DOWNHERE. should be sweet. Last concert I went to was this past fall- David Crowder.  I'm sad I'm going to have to miss out on CORNERSTONE this year. Nothing like not showering for a few days, camping out in a crowded place, sitting around tikki torches, and going to random bands.  Cornerstone I will miss you!

I'm staying in Portland to take summer school classes and to work full time outside mowing lawns. So I'm excited I can wear crummy clothes, get a farmers tan, and wear my cowgirl hat.  I'm taking Premarital/Marital Counseling and Conflict Resolution for my summer clases... could it be that they will be similar? haha. jk. not really.  Its funny because the profs are actually a husband and wife, the wife teaches the counseling and the husband the conflict resolution class. They also own JET SKIS. so perhaps I'll be riding around on those on the Willamette/Columbia River.

Other exciting summer plans: spend some time at THE BEACH, do some hiking, take some dance lessons, and hopefully see my family and boyfriend!  I will get to see both of them in 10 days when I head home for a break. It will be fabulous to hang out with them all soon.

HAVE A HAPPY THURSDAY!

Up from the gravy... a rose

Perhaps you've heard the old hymn, Up from the Grave He Arose! As a child my older sister(Andrea) thought it was "up from the gravy... a rose!" Its funny how when we are so young and simple we view everything from the lens that we have.  Then as we get older we realize that everything really means so much more, and how even the simple words we know hold a profound meaning.

Happy Resurrection Day! I hope and pray you were all able to Celebrate the greatest day of the year with those you love.  May you live understanding not only the power of the cross, but the life and power we have in the resurrection life of Jesus Christ who now sits at the right hand of God, with all things subjected and under His feet... and He is interceding for us!

I was able to travel for my spring break and travel to North Idaho to visit my fabulous boyfriend-Mike! who greeted me with a rose at the airport. :)

Sandpoint, ID is a quaint little resort town nestled between the Cabinet mountains and the Selkircks with a lake in between.  The days Mike had to work I spent time walking around town enjoying the little shops, journaling at Starbucks overlooking the SantaFe Train chug by over a bridge with mountains painted in the background. It was surreal.  Here is a view of the lake about 2 blocks from Mike's house.

IMG_0109

I was blessed to be able to stay the week at some of Mike's coworkers/friends house a few blocks away.  It was nice to have a little company while Mike had to work 3 days-13 hour shifts!  He was off work for Sunday and so we enjoyed breakfast at the Blue Moon Cafe and then headed to church.

IMG_0111

Too bad you can't see my fun sparkly turquoise easter skirt.  oh well. :)  You can however see a picture of THE BEAN up on Mike's shelf.  We are really looking forward to going home to Illinois this May to see our families.  Jo-bean is going to be crawling, Elaine is talking up a storm, and Hallie will be finishing first grade!  We wish we could have been able to see our families for Easter, but look forward to seeing them all soon sharing laughs, meals, and working out on the farm. ;)

IMG_0115

We were able to go to Ramone's (Mike's boss/friends) house for Easter and we had a blast hanging out and learning a new card game.  Here's a picture of their family.

IMG_0117

We were able to do so much its hard for me to fit it all in this weblog.  We were able to go to a churches' kick off for their skate ministry and Mike was able to show me his mad skills on a skateboard, and teach me how to ride a bit.  We also had fun as Mike showed me how to surf... well as much as you can on land. :)  He played the piano for me and taught me some djembe tricks... and I played the guitar for him.

IMG_0121

I think we're trying to look tough here, but really I look pretty harmless in that hoodie.

IMG_0130

Lets see, we also went for a hike and we went cross-country skiing, which was a blast!  It was incredibly scenic skiing along a beautiful snow covered mountain... and also hillarious wiping out in the snow... which we both took turns doing! haha.

IMG_0146 mike on the mountain

We also celebrated my birthday together by going out the most beautiful restaurant I have ever been! I enjoyed the lamb and Mike had steak. It was amazing.  Thanks Mike for a great "birthday"!

IMG_0153

I have more pics of course, but you'll just have to check them out via facebook or this post will turn into a book!

HAVE A HAPPY THURSDAY!
